“-ectomy” usually means that they are going to cut/remove something out of the body… so
Hemorrhoid-ectomy sounds like they are going to cut out/ or remove extra tissue from that region.
He can probably expect stitches and liquid diet for a while

Hemorrhoidectomy is to Hemorrhoids what Appendicectomy is to the Appendix. The terrible veins are going to be tied off, removed and cauterized while your cousin is under a general anesthetic. The poor chap is going to be in pain for a while but the relief this operation brings will be immense.
